Greater Bamboo Lemur

These funky looking animals are also known as the broad-nosed bamboo lemur. It's the largest bamboo lemur and weighs over five pounds. They eat bamboo most of the time. However, they do eat fungi, flowers and fruit.

The greater bamboo lemur can only be found in the southeastern part of Madagascar and usually live in groups of 28. So why are these lemur's endangered? Their population is slowly dying out due to farming, mining, logging and hunting.

These large lemurs are listed in The World's 25 Most Endangered Primates. That's pretty bad!

As always, you can click on this link to find out more information about these lemurs:

Amur Leopard

"It is believed that the Amur leopard can be saved from extinction if the present conversation initiatives are implemented, enhanced and sustained. "-WWF
Amur leopards live up to 10-15 years and adapt to almost any habitat as long as it provides food and shelter. What do they eat for dinner? Well, their main prey are Roe and Sika deers, wild boars and hares.

Today, there are approximately 20-25 Amur leopards living in Russia and 7-12 in China. These numbers are slowly dwindling and the Amur leopard is critically endangered. The main reason why these animals are endangered is because of the major factor that affects everyone: habitat loss. From 1970-1983, these leopards lost a breathtaking 80% of their territory due to logging, farming and natural things such as forest fires.

These leopards are also being HUNTED for their beautiful spotted furs. Can you believe this? We need to put an end to this. NOW!

Rediscovered Ivory-Billed Woodpecker

"The ivory-billed woodpecker has a rare chance at recovery, but no one is listening"- David Carruth

Everyone thought that ivory-billed woodpeckers were extinct, but in 2005, a video confirmed that they are still alive. People thought of it as the equivalent of finding Elvis alive! Can you imagine walking down the street and looking at Elvis? The whole world was stunned at this new rediscovery.

Ivory-billed woodpeckers make a unique double-knocking noise when they peck at trees, (hence the name woodpecker). People still don't know how many of these beautiful birds exist to this day and did you know that their bill isn't actually made of ivory but bone?

Quote Of The Month

"When it comes to looking after all the species that are already endangered, there's such a lot to do that sometimes it might all seem to be too much, especially when there are so many other important things to worry about. But if we stop trying, the chances are that pretty soon we'll end up with a world where there are no tigers or elephants, or sawfishes or whooping cranes , or albatrosses or ground iguanas. And I think that would be a shame, don't you?" -Martin Jenkins

I think that this quote basically sums up my whole opinion on endangered animals. Yes, there will be times when there are more important things in our lives than animals but in the end, our world would be A LOT different if there were no animals on it. Don't you agree?Agreeing with the quote above, it would be a shame if we never saw the species that we have seen ever again.

Comment below and tell me what your opinion is on this topic. :)

Yao Ming Helping Our Animals

Yao Ming (Famous Basketball Player)
"Endangered species are our friends". In 2006, Yao Ming pledged that he would stop eating shark fin soup. Yes, I did say SHARK FIN soup. It may not sound like much to westerners, but in China shark fin soup is very expensive and has a honourable history. Plus, the emperors loved shark fin soup.

Today if you go to almost any Chinese restaurant, you can order shark fin soup, fresh lobsters and many other dishes that involve animals. Why do these places serve this? These dishes are usually the most popular instead of the old noodle dish. In the company's point of view, if they can make more money, I bet you they would do it. I mean, who wouldn't?

If this continues, there won't be any more of these animals left. Then what would we do? Have a world where all of the animals are extinct? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather live in a world where there are other existing animals.
